✅ Neymar was involved in running battle with officials against Costa Rica culminating in VAR call

Neymar was involved in a running battle with referee Bjorn Kuipers during the game against Costa Rica which peaked with the decision to reverse a penalty call courtesy of VAR It began with the Brazil forward complaining to the referee during the half-time break in the tunnel. He had to be pulled away from Kuipers by team-mate Marcelo as he complained about a series of decisions Then Kuipers chose to reverse the penalty he had awarded Neymar after being told to do so by the VAR and then reviewing it himself  Neymar went down in the box under a challenge from Costa Rica defender Giancarlo Gonzalez in the 78th minute. Replays soon showed that Neymar had gone down easily under the challenge from Gonzalez and had made the most of it to win a penalty  Finally, Kuipers made a hand gesture towards Neymar that implied it was time for him to stop complaining as the game edged towards a close The newly introduced VAR system has been both criticised and praised throughout the 2018 World Cup in Russia. But the decision to reverse the penalty decision received almost universal approval  @Artekkers said it ‘was a perfect use of VAR, Neymar could’ve shot but went for the “easier” option of a penalty. Muppet Twitter user @Turkish_Futbol1 pointed out the similarities between Neymar’s fall, which involved him holding his arms out, and the famous Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil @TheJackyCalv simply wrote: ‘Hahahaha go on VAR!’  Brazil would eventually win the match, although it took until added time for the South American side to break the deadlock in St Petersburg.Philippe Coutinho latched onto a cross into the box to fire beyond Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas and put his side ahead Neymar himself then struck to confirm the three points for Brazil. The 26-year-old broke down in tears after the match after being overwhelmed with emotion
