How to Play Lacrosse : Roll Dodge & Split Dodge in Lacrosse

This is Tamir Elterman on behalf of expertvilage.com.
In this clip we will be talking about dodging. Regardless of your position on the field its
important that everybody on the field knows the fundamentals to a good dodge. The roll
dodge beginning the roll. The purpose of the roll dodge is to gain attacking space directly
behind your defender. You want to move with speed toward the defender and begin with two
hands on the stick in order to remain a threat to pass or shoot. Stick position, you hold
the stick parallel to your body and draw the stick into the body with the head of the stick
next to your head. The lower part of the head of the stick should be in your shoulder area.
Your shoulder and upper arm create a protective pocket for the stick. Your elbows should be
up and perpendicular to your body to help keep the stick parallel. The stick should
not be pressed against your body. This is a violation and results in loss of position.
You want to keep the stick in front of your body. Your next step is across the path of
the defender which places the defender directly behind you and allows you better stick protection
and the most direct lines of the goal split dodge. You begin by attacking with two hands
on the stick and complete the dodge with the opposite hand on the stick. For example a
right-handed player ends with a stick in the left hand. The stick remains parallel to your
body and the head of the stick moves across your body from one box area to the opposite
box area.

nooo a face dodge is when u bring ur stick across ur face to move it out of harm's way while u dodge. u don't have to split dodge to switch hangs. trust me.

wow… first of all, that roll dodge is suppose to make it look like ur going one way before rolling whereas your left feet was already rotated when you planted it

and second of all, if you try split dodging so close to the defender, he is just gonna poke you stick dead in the center and you can't do squat

I cant walk you throught the sub dodge but a wrap check is if you are behind the guy with the ball your sling your stick around the body of the man with the ball.

you could just fake in one direction and go to the other. you could douoble fake direction and go one direction. roll like he said. theres alot, just be quick and fool the defender. dont be predictable

keep ur stick close to ur head it will protect the ball and refs will be easier to call a penalty on ur defensman

i dont know about you, but I play in college and nobody goes for eye dodges… more than half the time they dont fall for a good split, roll, or face dodge either, but i have never seen a defender even flinch for an eye dodge at the collegiate level. sorry man

Acually ur wrong on the roll dodge u wanna be somewhat close to the d pole to get him on his heels the more room u give the easier for him to keep with you. And if you protect ur stick right and stay close he can't trail check you

also if you stop the clip at 0:54 you can see he is draging the stick behind him. it should be right up next to his head

@Shadowofstuff actually just play his hips, push on his hips with a nice push and it will move him and mess up his dodge, usually leaving to him dropping the ball or a decent shot to check his stick.
