How to Play Volleyball : Types of Sets in Volleyball

Hello, my name is Keith Sewell on behalf of
Expert Village. In this clip, we’re going to look at the types of sets in volleyball.
A one set is a set one or two feet above the net and hit as the ball is still rising, usually
set to the middle hitter. This is a great way to beat the other team’s block and catch
them off guard. Because it’s set so low, the play’s going to be run real quick and the
middle hitter needs to be approaching even before the setter has touched the ball. He
needs to be anticipating where the set will be and in the air, ready to swing as the setter
touches the ball and the ball will just go barely above the net and the hitter will be
ready to hit it. A two set is set three to four feet above the net usually for the middle
hitter, but it can be for the outside or the right side hitters if they approach closer
to the middle of the net. A four set is a set to the outside hitter. A five set is a
set backward to the right side hitter. A shoot is a set about two feet above the net to the
outside hitter at a fast speed. It’s got to be fast if it needs to stay that low for that
long. This is a very difficult set for the setter and the hitter to time each other.
Similar to the one set for the middle hitter, the outside hitter needs to be approaching
before the ball even hits the setter’s hands.

actually the hitting hand should be more straighter than it is shown in this video, that allows to hit the ball in the highest point

  2. MadRazzii Posted on April 27, 2008 at 11:32 pm

is it legal or allowed to play the volleyball using other part of the body rather than the arm, i know it is allowed but could there be more than three passes on the same team in a game played with other parts of the body intentionally or unintentionally? thank You…

  3. Brian Rowe Posted on May 19, 2008 at 10:33 pm

i think maybe he means a double hit our touch, which are not typically called on a hard driven ball.

  4. Abstinence Posted on November 14, 2008 at 5:28 pm

lol someone gets hit at :50

  5. songju1992 Posted on December 30, 2008 at 1:25 am

u hit with an open hand but its mainly the palm. then u let ur fingers mold into the ball and then u use ur wrist to snap the ball down. this is all during a swing

  6. Nikolay Manolov Posted on May 15, 2009 at 6:04 am

The guys from the video can't play very well… except one or two.

@TheLeilisa depends if your a guy or girl, however there are many different types of positions to play and almost every hight of athlete can be represented in some position on the court, be it taller for front row and sometimes shorter for back row. 5'10" is a decent hight for all around play, however your vertical will play a big part in dertermining what level you will be able to play at.

provides 1-on-1 training so that you
can have a complete confidence in
achieving high jumps in less than
    a month of training.
