Swax Lax Lacrosse Leading Pass Training Drill

The Leading Pass Drill teaches players the
all-important skill of catching on the run. We start our players without their sticks so
they can focus exclusively on running through their passes. Once they learn how to cut properly,
we introduce sticks. While this drill can be done with any type of cut, we like to start
with the V-cut. The pass is made with an underhand toss from the coach rather than her stick. We
want the players to be successful at mastering the cut and the catch, so we keep the pattern
as simple as possible. To make the drill more challenging, we’ll introduce a trailing
defender to pressure the catch, or have different groups compete against one another with coaches
counting the number of successful catches.
