Teammates save Westview lacrosse player’s life

THE OWNER DEALS WITH HIS CRIMES. THE MONKEY SEEMS CONFUSED. IT WAS JUST LIKE ANY OTHER PRACTICE FOR THE WESTVIEW HIGH SCHOOL BOYS LACROSSE TEAM UNTIL A BALL TO THE CHEST STOPPED ONE PLAYER’S HEART. AT FIRST, TEAMMATES THOUGHT SOPHOMORE COLBY CLAY WAS JOKING AROUND, STUMBLING AND CLUTCHING HIS CHEST, BUT THIS WAS NO JOKE. THE BALL HAD SOMEHOW HIT HIM DIRECTLY ON THE CHEST INSTEAD OF ON THE PADDING. FELLOW PLAYER BEN WU JUMPED INTO ACTION, USING SKILLS HE LEARNED IN THE HEALTH CAREERS PATHWAY PROGRAM TO ACCESS CLAY’S CONDITION. OUR TEACHERS TELL US WE HAVE TO MAINTAIN A PROFESSIONAL LEVEL, BECAUSE IF WE LET THAT BE COMPROMISE, WE AS CAREGIVERS ARE COMPROMISED. WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE CARE, AND YOU CANNOT LET YOUR EMOTIONS CONTROL WHAT YOU DO. JEFF: WU SAID HE LOOKED FOR PULSE, RESPIRATION, AND CONSCIOUSNESS. CLAY WAS GASPING FOR BREATH. THAT’S WHEN WU STARTED DOING CHEST COMPRESSIONS, WHILE ANOTHER STUDENT RAN FOR HIS PHONE TO CALL 911. CLAY IS DOING WELL NOW AFTER HE LEFT THE HOSPITAL. HIS FAMILY TOOK A TRIP TO THE BEACH AND HE CAN DO LIGHT EXERCISE. HE’S WEARING A HEART MONITOR FOR NOW, BUT PLANS TO RETURN TO
