oh hi. thanks for tuning in. i'm excited you're here. let's just jump into it… <3
Zac Efron Backlash (00:15), Jack Black vs Will Smith (3:14), PG&E (5:40), TIA (8:00), Police Roulette (9:26), Brazil Dam Disaster (14:18)

  2. Perri Levy Posted on February 7, 2019 at 4:23 am

If they were gonna play Russian roulette why did the gun have to be pointed at her chest? He could have pointed it at her leg or something

  3. Simple Complexity Posted on February 7, 2019 at 5:01 am

Why didn't you just mention Ted Bundy's name? He's already known before everyone's time. I thought you guys weren't mentioning names so (for a lack of a better term) new crazy people don't get the fame they're after. He killed people before this whole social media thing. I don't think blocking him out has the same affect as blocking some kid who literally only did things to become infamous.

  4. Innappy kid Posted on February 7, 2019 at 7:16 am

I don't get why the whole Ted Bundy movie thing is controversial I get the argument of you don't want the name of the person who commited these crimes to get out there even more but in this case the interest in learning about this has already been vitalized through the bio series about him on Netflix already and it's a very old case of whom most if not all information about it is public at this point so why simply talking about the story controversial?

  5. Wyatt Weir Posted on February 7, 2019 at 1:38 pm

I'll preface this by saying that a movie should NEVER be made about a still living killer when they are still alive. Many of them feed off their own notoriety.

Just prefacing, every aspiring movie maker should know this.

That aside, it is safest to make this kind of media if the victims and secondary victims (relatives or friends of the deceased) are no longer around either. Cause the fact remains that a movie made for money might truly harm someone affected by the killer and might cause undue stress that may lead to reverting their recovery.

I believe that a tragic story has worth being told, but never at the expense of victims, regardless of the intent or framing of it.

So bottomline, it's too soon. They have every right to make it, legally, but morally they shouldn't have done it yet.

But, on a side note, a movie INSPIRED by the events would have been perfectly fine. Probably. I'm no expert.

  6. TJTheJetUS2 Posted on February 7, 2019 at 3:24 pm

somethings up with the police shooting. officers dont just play Russian roulette in their downtime. something isn't right there.

  7. SpartansLXIX Posted on February 7, 2019 at 3:50 pm

I think Kevin Hart’s channel is sporadic on the views is because “cold as balls” is what people want to watch and the reason why one of them is 6.9 million is because every wants to see Ronda Rousey wet and in a skimpy shirt. No one cares about Kevin’s other shows

  8. Zoe Loza Posted on February 7, 2019 at 5:23 pm

  10. John Mobley Posted on February 7, 2019 at 5:37 pm

ted had a whole univrow tf and the trailer needed better editing // looks like it has potential// anything to make someone hate the murderer more i’m all for it// i can like how zac plays the character but obviously not like a whole murderer//but for the victims , they shouldn’t have to sit through that do idek

  11. Atitan Youtube Posted on February 7, 2019 at 8:52 pm

That Roulette story sounds like a cover up and they beat up the guy to stay silent.

  12. Matt Moats Posted on February 7, 2019 at 9:16 pm

"giving a mass murderer a platform, and more fame"? he's one of the most famous serial killers OF ALL TIME. there's nothing that can be done to make it more famous.

  14. Stacey Schingh Posted on February 7, 2019 at 11:07 pm

Bundy changed the landscape of what people perceived a monster to be. Whether we like it or not, his crimes happened and it happened because of his charm, non threatening looks and wit. I’m a huge true crime junkie. Not a lot phases me anymore. I’m also one of those idiots that will help out random strangers without even thinking about it. Bundy is the one killer that gives me that friendly reminder that there are wolves in sheep’s clothing and ALWAYS aware of my surroundings. I’ll be honest, as a true crime junkie, I was more interested in cases that weren’t as popular as Bundy in my twenties. I put myself in situations that could of had a worse outcome. Since finding out and learning about him, it’s been a life changer.

With all the sex trafficking and heinous crimes that are going on today, I think it’s important to know of disgusting people like him.

A daughter, a mother, a police officer… I don't understand how someone in her position could even think to play russian roulette. I call BS or just ashamed that people in this position are so stunted mentally.

  18. Loreal Luukkonen Posted on February 8, 2019 at 1:14 am

I think …humanity obviously is fascinated with death and …the serial killer . It really sucks because it's one thing I really love about your channel is that you don't show faces …because of glorification . And I feel as if that's EXACTLY what this specific serial killer wanted …it's been …how many years since he was put in the electric chair and it's been …how many years ? We are still talking about him . We are making a movie about him and a docu… it sucks cuz he's for a lack of a better word "immortal" 🙁 I don't agree with it but I am fascinated with it aswell . Yes I'm a hypocrite .

  19. Jamison Sims Posted on February 8, 2019 at 3:18 am

People if you have a problem with a movie, go after the DIRECTOR and PRODUCERS, tf do you think is gonna happen going after actors?

  20. Storm Posted on February 8, 2019 at 10:27 am

Zac – I cant comment until I see the movie

JB-WS – I watch neither. my life is so different from WS that inspiration from him misses the mark. JB is cool and I like his style but it hasn't grabbed me.

PG&E – company fucks up – buys innocence – no real consequence = this will continue to happen

Roulette – the life of a police officer and a soldier can be pretty grim and creates and gallows attitude that gives life to the idea that rollette might help you "feel" something again. I understand but I would need more information at this time

Brazil – Another company fucks up – buys innocence – no real consequence = this will continue to happen.

I am deeply saddened for the losses in Brazil and California

Soooooo no movies about hitler, stalin, mao and kim jong un. America is retared

  23. Max Bontrager Posted on February 8, 2019 at 5:37 pm

thoughts about serial killer movies… first off this is america. we live in a country where consumers drive market. Recently the whole serial killer fetish is on a rise. being a serial killer is something we as average humans cant fully understand and since we dont understand it we look for more and more information. The media then picks up on what were interested in at the time and the capitalize on it. Now is it morally right for them to do that? Some say yes some say no. If you dont agree with someone exploiting the killer and theyre victims then I would say, dont play into it. Because the way I see it, If you play into in the least bit either for or against it. Theyre going to see that. any attention is good to them, cause then others will play into it and cast theyre opinion on it and continue to grow the attention of it and grow the profits from it. If you dont like it. DONT PAY ATTENTION TO IT. You wont stop it from happening by complaining about it. You can only stop it by not feeding into it at all.

  24. Chris Slaughter Posted on February 8, 2019 at 6:04 pm

I'm calling bullshit, that shooting was murder, not an accident.

  25. whatever_ImAGirl Posted on February 8, 2019 at 7:00 pm

I can't wait for that movie. I hope it will indeed teach us how in reality monsters aren't what we think they are

  26. Anony Myus Posted on February 8, 2019 at 7:22 pm

i do believe it could have been an accident but i dunno… i feel bad for everyone

  27. Kypli 1 Posted on February 8, 2019 at 9:45 pm

3:12 You’re doomed to repeat the past if you don’t learn from it. Most serial killers do a good job at blending into society these days. Not all of them are going to look creepy and disturbed. So it is important to know that they can be successful people, good looking, charismatic, have jobs, contribute to society, etc.

  28. Darlene Posted on February 9, 2019 at 12:47 am

We are literally giving this murder everything he wanted. Fame.

  29. Victoria Gannon Posted on February 9, 2019 at 2:29 am

Just from the trailer I think they slightly over did it but the fact is that the serial killer was charismatic. Women literally showed up from across the country to just get a glimpse of him. He was a narcissistic manipulative psychopath. That’s how he fooled all those women.

  30. mysta02 Posted on February 9, 2019 at 3:04 am

    Hey Phil,

The Zac Efron movie, and whether those types of movies should be made, is a super hard issue to unravel.

On the one hand, I always own toward not censoring anything. Creators generally have a right to make whatever content they like, and consumers generally have a right to consume whatever content they like.

That said, it becomes grayer when talking about things that could harm people. And there's some evidence that media that glorifies harmful events or people can encourage more of such actions.

I don't have a straight answer or opinion, but believe it's a topic very worthy of more discussion.

  31. Rhaenyra Reigns Posted on February 9, 2019 at 12:07 pm

Thank you for talking about Brazil.
Still wish there was more international news, though.

  32. Amy F Posted on February 9, 2019 at 3:20 pm

Either there was something fishy and another incident occurred or they were all being very dumb. Dunno which though.

  33. Naud van Dalen Posted on February 9, 2019 at 3:57 pm

Ted Bundy is a well known serial killer and it happened long ago, so I don't know why you didn't just say his name. I agree that we shouldn't make murderers famous, but it's not like he's a new mass murderer who nobody would know of if the media didn't say his name or show his face.

  34. Cheese Bunz Posted on February 9, 2019 at 5:43 pm

  38. Narunata247 Posted on February 10, 2019 at 1:50 pm

Hollywood: We need to make more original titles.

Some Guy: lets make movies about actual serial killers

Hollywood: Perfect!! Wanna direct the next Star Wars movie? How bout the next DC movie?

  39. J Johannson Posted on February 10, 2019 at 3:33 pm

I’ll wait for the movie of the “serial killer” before jumping to judgement about the movie. I watched the Netflix documentary and the “killer” was in fact good-looking and charismatic. He fooled the public and his family into believing he was a good man. Portraying him as such in the movie seems accurate.

  40. Paula Nunes Posted on February 11, 2019 at 3:41 am

Thank you for talking about the Brazilian tragedy, I'm Brazilian in the US and I wasn't aware at all

  41. Emma Grace Posted on February 11, 2019 at 6:41 am

I don't think movies should be made about an actual serial killers life. I think if someone wants a make a movie regarding that theme, it should be about a fictional character.

Though, people construe anything that isn't reality into reality. So fantasizing these characters; or actual serial killers, can be a bit risky. But that goes with everything.

Should anyone who has lost a family member to overdose be upset about these shows? Like where is the line drawn. Blow and American made make drug trafficking look fun.

  44. GIOVANNA PANDOLFO Posted on February 11, 2019 at 2:57 pm

Phil, thank you for your words on Brumadinho. I’m a Brazilian international affairs student and the crime devastated me. It’s a environmental and civil crime. Period. Great take on it! ♥️

  45. Gaming Banditos Posted on February 11, 2019 at 5:18 pm

I think it's hard to frame a movie around a charismatic killer without making it a little rockstar-ish, it sucks for the victims but if it has to be made then it should accurately depict that he was a fun guy to be around when he wasn't trying to mercilessly kill you, it's how most of these killers have such a high death toll attached to their name, they were often very charming people that would lure you to drop your guard.

If you want a dead-pan hard to watch serial killer movie, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer is by and far the best of it's kind, it doesn't try to paint him as this loveable guy, he's hard to like and even harder to watch.

  46. Iroquois Plissken Posted on February 11, 2019 at 7:07 pm

It’s okay to cover mass murderers, it’s not okay to do it 24/7 every time there is one.

  47. Jackson Tide Posted on February 12, 2019 at 4:12 am

  50. tjt072 Posted on February 12, 2019 at 7:50 pm

I think movies on serial killers don't glorify the killers. I think it brings information about what happened and takes a look into their sick minds. Some people (like me) are interested in the stories and their mind set. It can also lead some into the field to study people/serial killers etc. Yes some sick people will see it as attention then want to do copy them so they can get famous. Unfortunately there is bad and good with movies like this.

  51. Ashton LeBleu Posted on February 12, 2019 at 8:55 pm

So for the Bundy movie. People should see how real monstery people are. How easy it can be for them to defy justice and hide in plain site. A pretty face is not essentially what they seem. But at the same time serial killers are looking for fame fairly often so if they are living they are benefiting. So…Im torn. Movies can share perspective. I will have to wait and see how I feel until I see it.

  52. AMc2781 Posted on February 13, 2019 at 12:15 am

we could watch a movie and THEN decide about it

  53. Brown_and_Curly_ NE_Girly Posted on February 13, 2019 at 12:34 am

This cop doesn’t deserve any special cop type funeral service…IF SHE ACTUALLY PARTICIPATED… but right off the bat I’m suspicious; a mother and wife is really out playing Russian roulette?? Let alone out drinking with 2 guys? Not saying married women can’t have male friends, but it just makes me wonder if there was any matters of the heart involved… if she participated in this I’m honestly disgusted…to risk leaving your children motherless so you can play tough girl with the boys..gross.. burry her in a shoe box out back and get on with it!

  54. sachin chinta Posted on February 13, 2019 at 4:29 pm

If no Ted Bundy movie no more war or wwii movies ever

  55. California Cobra Posted on February 13, 2019 at 6:13 pm

Some people are simply interested in/fascinated by serial killers purely for psychological reasons and not because they themselves are interested in becoming one. Some people hear stories like these and it makes them want to pursue a career in law enforcement. I get the whole fear of there being a copycat killer, but I really don't think this is going to be the film that inspires anyone to become a serial killer.

Regarding the whole Jack Black vs. Will Smith thing, I think Jack Black is "winning the game" because his content style is more relatable, whereas with Will Smith his content is very produced, expensive, and luxurious, which is unrelatable to most people.

  56. Cristina Sponchiado Posted on February 13, 2019 at 6:59 pm

I really don’t understand America’s obsession with serial killers

  57. Alan Hersch Posted on February 13, 2019 at 8:11 pm

On the topic of Small Team vs Large Team for youtube channels, I think your channel Phil, and Adam Savage's channels are great examples of larger teams working on presentation and polish BUT still having the passionate, genuine vibe. Adam Savage's company has a surprisingly large amount of people involved but every single video feels personal on some level, whether it be the enthusiasm in it, or just the thoughtfulness of the camera work and information discussed. When looking it at this way I really dislike channels like Will Smith's since I think his channel has the potential to be MUCH more in line with yours and Adam's. Side note, you can totally make videos with the same amount of draw with a much smaller team too.

All money made from the movie should go to families of the victims.

  61. Dorian Clemente Posted on February 14, 2019 at 9:10 pm

Story one about Ted Bundy does not have me conflicted at all. It’s an unfortunate part of America’s history, but because of serial killers like Bundy, Dahmer, and Kemper the FBI was able to put together the behavior analysis unit to help catch ppl like this.
If it was not for psychos such as these we would probably still be in the dark ages of forensic psychology.
And the publication of these things is some what needed as well but that is a completely different tangent.

  62. MUNCheeTz420 Posted on February 15, 2019 at 12:12 am

She agreed to play so it was an accidental death… You don't play Russian Roulette hoping you get shot so getting shot is an accident.

My opinion.. I didn’t care about this movie until someone mentioning the families having to relive experiences again. That rocked and I understand where they’re coming from. Do I think the movie is alright? Yeah if they changed the music and the “caring” plot for Ted Bundy (Zac Efron)

  66. Venice beach vlogger Posted on February 15, 2019 at 9:07 am

Really you can’t say ted bundy? Lol gayyyyyy

  67. Jane Lawrance Posted on February 15, 2019 at 12:32 pm

I personally have quite a morbid curiosity when it comes to serial killers. But I feel that having movies or at the very least documentaries about these killers open to the public. Helps to educate those who assume all monsters are easily identified when the fact is any person can be a serial killer they aren't the shadows in your nightmares and the truth is they can often manipulate and persuade their victims. So I think it shifts public perspective on the bad in the world.

  68. Sean Cartaya Posted on February 15, 2019 at 4:03 pm

That Russian roulette story sounds like total bullshit. I would guess the one officer shot the other because he had feelings for her, and she rejected him. Then he needed to quickly think of something to avoid getting charged with first degree murder, and went with this ridiculous Russian roulette story that would at least reduce his charge to manslaughter. Having to think up something very quickly explains the stupid story. Then his partner went along with it to cover his ass. The Russian roulette story just seems so ridiculously stupid, and the guy banging his head hard enough against a car window later on to break the window seems to add to the idea that he would be unhinged and volatile enough to shoot the victim for turning down his sexual or romantic advances.

  69. Mary P Posted on February 15, 2019 at 4:20 pm

I’m extremely interested in serial killers so I think it would be interesting to have movie portraying his life
It might cause awareness to the subject bc many serial killers have very troubled pasts and I think we can help people out of those situations

Here’s my argument, It’s a fucking movie. Just like comedy for me… If you are performing comedy and you say something fucked up, I’ll take it as a joke no matter the extent. IF it’s for comedies sake. Same with movies. If the movie makes the story more entertaining, who cares if it’s over sexualized or whatever, just make it clear then that it’s a “dramatization of the real events”

  94. barrelracer121495 Posted on March 29, 2019 at 2:26 pm

No ill will towards him I just don't understand why people are so in love with him. he reminds me of that uncle that never quite grows up but thinks he like really cool and hangs out with teenagers even though he's like 50 and says things like "dope" and does air guitars to look..why do people do air guitars I get it when you are drunk or listening to your favorite song but some ppl do air guitars seriously in a serious manner and I'm not sure why…ugggh I just cant relate.

I get the sentiment in not showing the names and faces of killers, and I think that makes a lot of sense most of the time, but… No offense Phil, I think we might be a little bit beyond that point with Bundy. I think that ship has sailed with him.
